so when I mentioned recently

THOMAS HORN

on my

FACEBOOK status,
no one responded

to the comment;

THOMAS HORN.....brilliant performance!!!

Understandably, maybe no one had seen it...

OR

rather, no one had any idea
about who I was speaking!!

AND, therefore no one responded
with any kind of
COMMENT on his performance.

Here are a few FUN FACTS:

1. Thomas Horn is the LEAD ACTOR
of the new TOM HANKS/SANDRA BULLOCK movie

EXTREMELY LOUD
&
INCREDIBLY CLOSE.

(i read the book; read it... very good)

2. Horn was discovered on KID'S week at Jeopardy! where he won $31,000.
The show aired in JULY 2010.

3. Thomas is 14 years old, but just 11 when discovered by the films PRODUCER
Scott Rudin.

4. He is an avid reader, particularly of National Geographics and atlases.

5. He speaks THREE languages:
English,
Croatian,
and Mandarin.

6. His parents are both physicians. His mother an oncologist; his father and opthamalogist.

Many reviewers have said this movie was par at best...

My opinion is far different.
Thomas Horn's performance makes this movie.
The others, are just support.

This movie is about working through grief and healing....

HEALING.

Another New Year

happy new year!

the holidays
were a bit strange
this past
year.

ongoing
issues
kept us flying
by the seat
of our pants.

buying gifts
was out
of the question.

cards
were mailed
but only
because they
had been purchased
previously.

christmas day
was actually stress-free.

this was nice.

and the compassion and love from
others was overwhelming.

Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice
by
Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

The Colors of Christmas

The Colors of Christmas

We drove through Pickens,
South Carolina, following
the road up and over
Caesar’s Head towards
Connestee Falls.

The elevation found a display
of autumn leave leftovers
and barren branches
hung on mountain trees.

The road, grey-misted
and lonely in an afternoon fog,
fell to a valley of green,
quite in contrast
to the December browns.

When we arrived,
Mother was hanging
icicle lights on the house;
it felt like home.

Even the rain
belonged to the day
and the cold outside
found a welcoming fire
inside where the children
and I snuggled

next to the Christmas tree
adorned with my favorite
childhood ornaments,
each special memory
remembered
by those represented.

As dusk seeped her color
across a western sky,
darkness twinkled
diamonds
into a clearing night
that brought a borealis
of pink, peach, and ice blue;

as my children
pressed their noses
to frosted glass
making Santa and reindeer
finger paintings,

I caught the moment
before it drifted away,
tucking it deep inside
next to last year's
Christmas colors.

being thankful...

this year
my girls
were not with me
for
THANKSGIVING

and i missed them
terribly...

they will be home
this evening.

when they are with you all the time
and gone for only 3 days
you become aware
of how much they are
a part of your life.

i have been acutely aware
that everything about them
and who they are
is inside me;
every moment
of everyday....

i love MY girls..

 mommy misses you this moment
AND
any moment

you are not with me....
